I began painting as a form of therapy in February 2007, never intending anyone to see the paintings except myself. Of course, life seldom takes the path we think, and a friend of mine prompted me to post one of the paintings on Myspace. I did, and then posted another, and then another. Soon, I received a message asking if I sold my work. I was shocked, to say the least.
I am a self taught artist, and would describe my work as emotive and surreal, with a heavy dose of symbolism. Frida Kahlo was quoted as saying "I never painted my dreams, I painted my reality"… I would have to say this is the path I have taken also.
I paint. Anywhere. Anytime. I live to paint. My soul has to paint. My mind is constantly composing new works, expressing emotions through symbolism and color, watching people live and reproducing that on canvas. I am a figurative artist
I enjoy challenging the viewer of my art. I hope to encourage imagination and emotion. I use a lot of symbolism and lean toward the surreal. However, I also adore the Victorian era, and have been known to immerse myself in character studies of the ladies of that age. To me, they represent feminity at its peak.
My favorite saying is: We are so limited on this earth with human hands...if only the mind could hold the paintbrush.
